Vincent Paterson is a world-renowned director and choreographer who creates in every genre of the entertainment industry–film, theatre, Broadway, concert tours, opera, music videos, television and commercials.
He recently directed and choreographed a compelling SRO version of the musical EVITA at the renowned Ronacher Theater in Vienna. Vincent directed the acclaimed opera MANON with soprano Anna Netrebko, conducted by Placido Domingo in Los Angeles, and Daniel Berenboim in Berlin. His direction of the top selling classical DVD in European history, ANNA NETREBKO: THE WOMAN, THE VOICE, received a Best Television Arts Program nomination at the Montreaux Film Festival. Vincent directed and choreographed Berlin’s first original production of the musical CABARET at Bar Jeder-Vernunft. Now in its 12th season, it’s the longest running play in Berlin’s history.
As a director and choreographer, Vincent created iconic works for Madonna and Michael Jackson including directing and choreographing Madonna’s BLOND AMBITION TOUR as well as conceiving and choreographing the Marie Antoinette version of VOGUE. For Michael Jackson, with whom he worked for over 15 years, Vincent created the BAD TOUR as well as, SMOOTH CRIMINAL, BLACK or WHITE, THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL and multiple other Jackson music videos and live performances, from the Grammy Awards to the Super Bowl Halftime Show. His work with Michael Jackson and Madonna alone has amassed close to 1 billion hits on YouTube.
Vincent directed and choreographed the musical sequences in Lars Von Trier’s, DANCER IN THE DARK. Other films he choreographed include THE BIRDCAGE for Mike Nichols, EVITA for Alan Parker, HOOK for Steven Spielberg. He choreographed London’s West End production of LENNY–Sir Peter Hall, and LA Opera’s GRAND DUCHESS–Garry Marshall. As well as directing commercials, he has choreographed numerous Cleo winners for famed director Joe Pytka.
Vincent wrote, directed, and co-choreographed Cirque du Soleil’s, VIVA! ELVIS, which ran in Las Vegas for over 1,000 performances. He also directed stellar benefits for APLA, featuring performers Madonna, Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Kenny Loggins, Natalie Cole, Billy Joel, Elton John, Patty Austin, Sarah Brightman, Wynonna Judd, Eddie Van Halen, and Sheila E.
Vincent has lectured to sold-out audiences and conducted seminars at Lincoln Center, Dance Films Association and MOMA (NYC), Dickinson College (Pa.), SDC’s Director’s Lab West (LA), Cinematheque Francaise (Paris), Monaco Dance Forum, Biografilm Festival (Bologna, Italy) and Dance Camera West (LA).
Swedish Television produced a documentary, THE MAN BEHIND THE THRONE, about Vincent’s life and career that has garnered international awards, has been seen in over 30 countries and was the featured film at the Bologna International Documentary Film Festival, the San Francisco Dance Film Festival and Los Angeles’ Dance Camera West Film Festival at LACMA.
Among other theatrical projects, he will direct a new musical for composer/lyricist John Cameron, IN ANOTHER CENTURY and will direct an original musical, ONE, in Holland. Vincent has co-written his autobiography, with Nicholl Award winner Amy Tofte.
He recently received two prestigious dance awards: The INDUSTRY AWARD and the LA CHOREOGRAPHER’S CARNIVAL AWARD for excellence in choreography.
